Thomas Carlsson
I am a European patent attorney with more than 20 years of experience in drafting, prosecuting, defending and evaluating patent applications. My book Good Patent Applications (Boco IP, 2021) sets out the foundations of high‑value patent drafting, and I now focus on developing techniques for maximizing both quality and efficiency in drafting through the use of artificial intelligence. My second book, Problem–Solution Arguments at the European Patent Office (Boco IP, 2025), examines how to defend and attack patents effectively within the EPO framework.
I handle oppositions and stay closely attuned to developments in EPO and UPC case law to ensure that my work consistently reflects the latest legal and procedural insights. Trained as a physicist, I work across a broad range of technologies, including microdevices, semiconductors and new materials, measurement technology, electrical and medical devices, household appliances, electrochemistry, energy generation and transfer, and all applications involving light.
I also regularly train students, clients and patent professionals in various aspects of patent law and practice.
