Essi Karppanen

I work with a wide range of intellectual property assignments in the field of chemistry, especially within pharmaceuticals, polymer and pulp chemistry, and biotechnology. My responsibilities include drafting and prosecuting patent applications, conducting novelty searches and freedom-to-operate analyses, as well as technology landscaping.
I hold a Doctor of Science in Technology degree in organic chemistry. Before entering the IPR field, I worked as a researcher in the pharmaceutical industry and later as an official at the EU level, where I was involved in the implementation of biocide legislation.
What inspires me in this field is the opportunity to work closely with researchers and inventors—helping them protect and develop their innovations. I particularly enjoy client interaction and the collaborative work we do at Boco IP. It’s a pleasure to be part of such a skilled and committed team. I’m currently training to become a European Patent Attorney to further strengthen the services I provide to our clients.
